This presentation will outline the college and scholarship application process and outline the misconceptions that teens and their family have about these processes, while explaining the hidden costs of college prep. Participants will receive simple practices and techniques to help teens prepare for college prior to their senior year.
1. Engage in two college prep financial literacy activities
2. Understand college prep is the first step in preventing student debt
3. Learning the top financial aid mistakes
4. Open discussion on how to pay for college
30 minute session + 15 minute Q&A

This session is dedicated to assisting first generation and ELL students and parents on how to properly navigate the collegiate system by advocating and asking the right questions to get answers on how to move forward. We will explore both college enrollment and financial aid questions, as well as how to contact the right person for assistance when there is a problem in either area. Most parents of first generation and ELL students have no idea where to start or what questions to ask or even who to go to for help. This session will remedy that.
1. Who to contact for application issues.
2. Who to contact when trying to understand financial aid, including understanding the verification process.
3. What questions they need to ask to effectively advocate for the student.
4. Who to contact when trying to locate resources for their students.
5. Empower parents and students with information to advocate for themselves and succeed in college.

The adjustment to college life for students who learn differently can be riddled with confusion and anxiety, largely due to the unknown steps students and families have to take prior to entry. This session will highlight the skills and steps students should consider in order to proactively prepare for a successful launch in college.
1. Participants will understand the process of evaluating their own readiness in relation to college benchmarks.
2. Participants will develop strategies to make the adjustment to college healthier.
3. Participants will label the accommodation process for disability services in college.
4. Participants will critique college services based on student need.
30 minute session + 15 minute Q&A
